I have an epson 980 installed on a computer that also has a Backpack CDRW. I am getting Even ID error 3523 "The eplpdx01 service could not be started" message while booting. I have disabled and enabled eplpdx01 to no avail and also uninstalled and reinstalled the print driver and printer and installed a newer print driver. Nothing works. Does anyone have an idea how to get rid of this message?

Thanks.

Are you suggesting that both the CDRW drive and the Epson are sharing the same parallel port?

Try to get new drivers for the Backpack. Uninstall both driver sets for the printer and drive. Now using the newest drivers try installing in the reverse order you did before; e.g. if the last time it was drive, then later the printer; this time do the printer then the drive, with new drivers for both.

We recieve the same error on boot, nothing else attached. Where can I find this entry in XP to kill that service ?

Hey guys and gals.
A bit of a problem with which I hope you can help me. Windows XP systems will not let me have administrator priviges to add remove drivers, change time etc... now simple I hear you all say BUT... wait and read on..

I have added myself to the local administrator group on the local PC, I am a member of domain admins, enterprise admins, administrators, users, guests etc etc on the domain
I have created a new container in the directory and checked the "block policy inheritance" so the group policy does not apply to that container...

Yet it still does not work!! Somewhere the policy is still applying itself to my account, yet other accounts in the admins container work fine.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I run an Athlon XP1700 system with Windows 2000 pro. My printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 750. I too get this problem (which did not happen under Windows 98SE). The event viewer says eplpdx01 service does not start due to "incorrect parameter" which isn't very helpful. Epson are completely unhelpful. The only downside apart from the nuisance of the message is that the Status Monitor won't work so I can't monitor the ink levels.

Has anybody tried removing the backpack so that you are sure the printer will function in a normal situation. If so, then does the backpack support the two way communication the printer now needs? You might have to add a parallel port.
