Explanation of Regsvr32 Usage and Error Messages

"Verbose Logging
For detailed Software Installation logging information, set the following value in the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Diagnostics]
"Appmgmtdebuglevel"=dword:0000009b
With this value set, detailed logging and diagnostic information for the Software Installation extension will be written to the following file when policy is applied:
%windir%\debug\usermode\appmgmt.log
You can use the output in this log file to see how policy was evaluated and applied to the user or computer, and why specific actions happened on the client."

Don't know if the above is relevant, I saw it in a .doc called "Troubleshooting Group Policy in Windows 2000"

Can not finde value in the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Diagnostics]
Appmgmtdebuglevel.
Please check in your registry.
Found "Appmgmts" and "Diagnostics", but in diffrent entries in the registry.
Maybe this error is key for ID: 1085

Try this if you like.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

Create a new KEY called Diagnostics.

In that KEY create a new Value (Dword) called Appmgmtdebuglevel.

In that value set it to 0000009b

I wouldn't think that the absence of such a Registry entry as the one above is the cause of your problem, however other errors in the Registry may well cause such a problem, perhaps?

If I knew what an activeXDLL file was I'd try to help you on that. Truth is that I have never heard that term before, but that doesn't mean too much, there are lots of things that I don't know.

From my experience, if a .dll registers using Regsvr32, fine, if it doesn't, I usually ignore the error message, and try something else. Not much help, sorry.

In order to decrease number of possible causes that are involved in creation of Applications Userenv 1085 Error, ask you for a favor to try re-register Appmgmts.dll file through Start>Run>regswr 32 Appmgmts.dll> Enter.
This operation is completely harmless for your machine.
My basic PC configuration is XP Pro SP2, FAT 32 , x86, Workgroup stand-alone PC.
After that, please report result.
Thanks,

Says you, lucky I'm a trusting soul, or is it that I have Virtual PC's to test things on as well as plenty of drive image backups?

regswr 32 Appmgmts.dll fails because of both a typing error and syntax error.

regsVr32 Appmgmts.dll, as a limited user fails with this message, "Appmgmts.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file cannot be registered."

Trying the same command as an Administrator resulted in the exact same error message.

The moral of the story is that Appmgmts.dll cannot be registered.

If you want a test machine, why don't you download Virtual PC 2004, or Virtual PC 2007 Beta, which are both freeware provided by Microsoft.

Microsoft Virtual PC 2004

You can even see if your original error comes up on a XP clean installed into a Virtual PC.

Thanks linney for assistance and I am sorry for typing error "regswr", instead of "regsvr".
You receive the same message as me, but you don't have 1085 error.,
Can you find then explanation re User Action to troubleshoot client-side extention failure from Microsoft , where they say to re-register Appmgmts.dll file , which seams to be not re-registrable.
Re Microsoft Virtual PC 2004, this is very usefull information- how much space is requiered on HD.

My Virtual machine for XP SP2 creates a Virtual Hard Drive that uses 5.45GB of the Hosts machine's hard drive. The actual Virtual PC program that runs on the Host machine does not use too much space but you will need enough RAM to run two operating systems at the same time, the more RAM the better. I have 1GB of RAM installed. The minimal system requirements of XP apply to both host and guest machines.

As to why some dlls register and some don't, I don't know the answer to that question. You could try using the "u" switch to unregister a dll before you register it (I did try that but it made no difference). You could try your register or unregister from Safe Mode too. I have always found some dlls do and some dlls don't, it seems to be pot luck to me but I am no expert on the matter.

Group Policy Troubleshooting

I have only 512 MB RAM.Even my HD has only 40 GB.
I am supprized why in Microsoft tutorial for troubleshoot Userenv 1085 is suggested to re-register Appmgmts.dll file, together with other listed there and this one is can not be re-registered.
I asked answer from MSDN site to, but since now no any reply.
I wonder why such a sites exist if people can not find help and assistance when needed.
I-ll try to re-registar this file in Self Mode.
By the way I ask some friends to re-register this file, but all of them received the same message as me and you.

Tried in Safe Mode to re-register Appmgmts.dll file, but the same mesage appear as in Normal Mode.

Appmgmts.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer or DllUnregisterServer entry point was not found.

Appmgmts.dll may not be exported, or a corrupted version of Appmgmts.dll may be in memory. Consider using Pview to detect the file and remove it."

Interpreted from "Explanation of Regsvr32 Usage and Error Messages"

You can chase after that if you think it worthwhile.

Windows Process Viewers

Process Viewer is similar to Pview.exe, but it can view processes on remote computers

Hello linney,
I have good news to report. Seems that corrupted registry even this time caused Userenv 1085 error.
As regular maintenance run Registry Supreme Pro 1.2 apps .Found about 254 errors and for fix them take very long time. Reported that 54 entries was recovered and rest deleted.
After restart , famous Userenv 1085 finally disappear, I hope for ever.
Thanks for your assistance m'8
This was very looooooong thread but important is final result.
