Hello,

I'm quite new in the ETL industry and I'm looking for information about the market. Especially an evaluation matrix with the most important player is of my interest.

Hi,

I've used SQL Server DTS and Ardent's DataStage.
Of what I have used:

DTS is good for low volumes within Microsoft applications (excel, text, sql server db's and Access) otherwise for more generic use, use DataStage!

Also DataStage is a lot better at the higher volumes of data.

Just my opinion! I'm sure that they're are more tools out there too though.

I used DataStage and HummingBird Genio.

I prefer Genio for its "impact analysis" feature and for its user friendlyness. Its simple scripting language allows a lot (in procedural mode).

Datastage is a good tool too, but I did not like:
- repository has to be on a Universe database (another database to manage)
- scripting language is horrible (an old non standard basic).
- support was not very good (France).

I did not test the latest version of Datastage, so it may have changed !

Hello K-money,

Check out the ETL quadrant that is published by Gartner.

If you have money to spare pick the leader in the field, Informatica. No coding involved, delicious GUI, metadata reporting , good worldwide support. Slick, polished package.... T. Blom
