I have been making various network traces on VoIP phones due to Quality of Service issues.

When using Ethereal i make a trace, under the Ethernet IP tab there is a "DSCP - Diffserve Field", this is an example of what i see:

"Differentiated Services Field: 0xb8 (DSCP 0x2e: Expedited Forwarding; ECN: 0x00)"

I see the "0xb8" marker, does any one know how this b8 converts to a decimal value? My VoIP server is set to DSCP 46 for Voice. But how does this convert to "b8".

Any help much app.

Hi Rinky123,

0xB8 --> 1011 1000 (binary) --> 184 decimal

DSCP 0x2E --> 10 1110 (the most 6 significant Bits)

184 / 4 = 46

and ECN are the 2 least significant Bits and normally zero

thanks wfischer

Just what I was after,thanks.

Looks like my the VoIP ntwk im working on is set up correctly, as the routers/switches are forwarding my DSCP marker of 46 or b8.
