Ok everyone I left on vacation My mac was running fine, I come back do a frickin security update to OS X(everything else was current) and I get a grey screen with the STUPID PINWHEEL, and this message
etc/Master.password: no Such file or directory
sh2.05a#

Of course I can work away in unix but I cannot operate this way...anyone know what is wrong or why this happened?

All the pictures in my iphoto directory are irreplaceable, and the itunes directory is pretty darn important as well ..anyone have a good solution...

Would putting a new drive in, loading a fresh copy (and updating) then plugging in this old drive, and dragging the iphoto and itunes libraries over work??? I am a mac convert... I just CANT afford to loose these pictures...

These images would be replaceable if you employed some sort of back up scheme.

Yes, your idea might work. If your Mac has a Firewire connection, I would invest in an external drive to use as a back up. You could load your fresh system on an external drive. You can also boot from an external drive.

Would you have Norton Utilities or some other gadget to check your system? I use Norton Systemworks but there might be a disk checking utility on your OSX install CD>

Why is everyone in this forum responding to me as picklefish?

I have an external firewire drive...and 2 rouge drives at home a 30 gb and a 40 gb... I made a cd (4 cd's ) backup of the 1st 3gb of my iphoto directory, but never thought of using my firewire enclosure as a backup device..Duhhh ..Thanks for the idea!!!
I also have Norton System Utilities, antivirus and the lot, I run it all the time.. and keep it updated... I have NO CLUE what caused this error..
I am a Server technician... More than the what,...it's the WHY that's killing me!
