HI,

We have a priv1.edb file without a stm file. We have tried to create a stm file with the command eseutil /p c:\progra~1\exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.edb /createstm but we get invalid option ' /createstm'. If I remove the space we get this error

Microsoft(R) Exchange Server(TM) Database Utilities
Version 6.0
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation 1991-2000. All Rights Reserved.

Error: Access to source database 'e:\exrecovery\priv1-230605.edb/createstm' fail
ed with Jet error -1022.

Operation terminated with error -1022 (JET_errDiskIO, Disk IO error) after 1.140
seconds.

Can anybody advise me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

I have never seen that command line switch. Are you sure that is valid?

Yes the switch is valid as a subset switch, but not as a main.

Syntax is

eseutil /p /createstm

as part of a DB repair. Not otherwise.

I have tried the command as a subset switch as below...

eseutil /p c:\progra~1\exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.edb /createstm

but it comes up with the error invalid option ' /createstm'

Just to update this post I have sp1 installed on exchange I have downloaded SP3 and copied the eseutil.exe program from the service pack and pasted it into the bin folder (renamed old eseutil first). Tried to run the command again. This did not come up with the same error I now get

C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA>c:\progra~1\exchsrvr\bin\eseutil.exe /p priv1.
edb /createstm

Checking database integrity.
The database is inconsistent. There may be uncommitted logfiles.

The priv1.edb file is in the folder but no .stm file as this is the file i want to create.

Why don't you exmerge the mailboxes out, dial tone the store and exmerge the data back in.

If your DB is inconsistent anyway, it looks like you have big problems.

Yeh it is Inconsistant, both the priv and the pub. Our customer has not taken any backups of the databases aswell so it looks like it is lost. The eseutil /mh on priv1.edb shows ulversions at 0x620,9 so do you rekon it is lost?

If it is a customer and they want the data back, get them to cough up for Aelita Recovery Manager. Should extract the data even from a corrupt store.

Or drop the corrupt store into the recovery storage group of Exchange Server 2003 and get it to fix the problems.
