ERS4550T using LLDP to modify VLAN on 9608 taking forever

I have a customer that does not have a DHCP server, so I am using LLDP in the ERS4550T to modify the VLAN-ID on their 9608s. Once the VLAN has been modified I am using the IPO V2 as a DHCP server for the phones only. Everything is working as expected, with one exception. When the 9608 boots it takes 26sec to switch to the Voice VLAN. Once it does it gets an IP from the V2, downloads, and waits to be logged in. I was hacking my way through this on a switch that I had laying around the office a few days ago and I remember it only taking 3-4sec. Any ideas as to what is causing a 26sec delay. I do realize that 26sec is not quite forever, but it sure seems that way when you are watching it.

Thanks,
E

Maybe you could better go to the Nortel networking forum as there are the specialists on the matter.
I have done the same on 3500 switches and as you said it usually takes a few seconds to boot after switching the VLAN on the 9600 phone.

Thanks intrigrant. I didn't think this was the forum to go to, but didn't see one that looked right. I have added a thread to the Nortel Networking forum. Just for clarity though. Once the 9608 switches VLANs it goes as expected. It's when it is waiting to switch VLANs that it drags on.

Here's the thread for anyone who travels behind: thread902-1741456

I have seen the same on a 2500 and i left it like it is.
I could not find the issue.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

What release are you running?
See below, better upgrade if you are on the same release.

Ethernet Routing Switch 4500 software release 5.4.1.0

Problem Clarification: If Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) is enabled on a switch, then switch may suddenly freeze. During the problem switch can't be reached via telnet or console.

Cause
This is a known issue in software release 5.4.1.0. LLDP causes memory depletion, and memory depletion causes switch to freeze. Memory utilization can be checked by the following command:
#show memory-utilization

When it is over 20 MB (Megabyte) usually there is no problem. If the memory utilization is under 20 MB and LLDP is enabled, then switch may freeze.

Solution

There are two workarounds for this problem:
1) LLDP causes memory depletion, so if you disable LLDP this problem will not occur.
2) When the problem is seen rebooting the switch will resolve the issue.
For the permanent fix, upgrade software release 5.4.3.0 since the issue is resolved in this version of code. This release currently is not generally available on Avaya website, but it is expected to be released at quarter 3 or 4 of 2011. Please contact technical support team if you need additional information.
