I was looking at the savegrp.txt to see if I had a successful backup and encounter some questions on some of these errors the log reported.

Should I be concerned? If so, What should I do to resolve?

Newbie level so please give me suggestions in details. (Step by step description)

Thanks!

It appears that you are trying to backup files that are open by an application - for one, MySQL database.

You cannot properly backup a database (see note) while it is running unless that database supports an integrated module in the Legato Networker that ensures that you are backing up files that are stable.

In most cases, the DB or other applications need to be shutdown in order to ensure a proper backup.

Look through the Legato Networker Admin manual for the text 'savepnpc' - in section 2 under "Customizing the backup command" you will find info on how to set things up so that at the start of the backup the Legato Networker server can initiate a shutdown of application(s) on the client, then restart them when backups are complete.

Look in the client properties for BigRed and look for a data field called "backup command" - if it has the text 'savepnpc' in it then there may be something wrong on the client side in the file <Networker Install Path>\res\<group name>.res which is where the commands to stop and start the apps are located.

If the "backup command" data field is blank then it has never been setup to shutdown the apps, or some other admin has cleared that field.

Note: A backup of a database that is made while it is still open and running will likely end up with a corrupt database when you attempt a restore. There are many open files that contain pointers to data in other files and in the time it takes to get all of them backed up something can change in one of the files rendering the pointer in the file that is already backed up bogus.

Sorry for the delay...

Thanks for the suggestion.. I'll have to look into this..

Does version 6.2 build 109 support savepnpc?

I can't seem to find it in the help..

Thanks!

savepnpc was introduces years ago with a NW 5 version. So it is supposed to support it. If not, this would be a bug.
