Error

I am getting a header on upper left page corner @EJL 1284.4 when printing from Epson 570+ dotmatrix printer.

But the rest of the printout looks ok?

Thanks for reply, the rest of the page is OK this is in Windows 2000 professional as the with default driver for epson lq 570 is printing very slow i replaced the driver with epson lq 570e printer driver i am getting this header with the new driver installed.
With the default windows 2000 i am not getting any error but printer is printing very slow.

Pre-windows/early windows days--printer manuals for panasonic and okidata printers used to show a series of printers that you could select for emulation purposes.
Maybe the manual for your epson would have a list like that and there is an earlier epson lq model you could select that would be a compromise between the lq570e driver and the win2k default driver.

The index for the lq570 manual shows a high speed draft mode. Is the printer set to use that and is win2k accessing the printer in a way that allows it to use the high speed mode?

I dont understand what Im asking very well, all I can do is give you a kind of parallel example.

I have an okidata printer that has a high speed draft mode and an accounting package that I want to use it with.
I have the printer set on high speed draft, but in the accounting package there are setups for windows printers and dos printers. Whenever I can access this printer with the dos/character settings, it prints in the high speed mode. Sometimes im forced to access it in the windows mode, in which case it prints much slower. The epson may work in a similar manner.

I dont use win2k so Im unable to do any looking or experimenting there for you.

I don't work with Epson but I do printer programming for another company.

I have not seen your message before but I can take an educated guess as to its meaning.

@EJL is almost certainly an intro to the job language, Epson Job Language. the escape character before the @ is not printed.

1284.4 is an IEEE standard for a highspeed parallel centronics port.

Anyway, my guess is that you are using a printer driver with a newer version of the PDL than what your printer has. Try an older driver or a driver for an older printer.

Of course with the amount of knowledge I have regarding Epson I wouldn't take my comments to seriously.
