Hi All,

I have installed linux whitebox on a server and now wish to install EMC vmware.
I have unpacked the tarball and excuted the rpm, once i did this i ran the vmware-config.pl, i then got asked for my serial number, once i entered this i got the following error;
error while loading shared libraries libX11.so.6 cannot open shared object file.

i have the file in /usr/X11R6/lib64/libX11.so.6, it forms a symbolic to libX11.so.6.2.
the owner is root and all permissions are on (777).

any help would be greatfully appreciated.

cheers
Pete

Which VMware product are you trying to install? Workstation? ESX?

Hi,

what Linux did you install?
Did you install a 64bit Linux OS?

VMware Server is a 32bit application so you need to install 32bit libs one your Linux host aswell.

/egr

Hi egr,

I am running whitebox enterprize linux.
The VMware is the free server download.
so far i have been working through the libraries and dependencies with rpm files and downloading a new each time as there is always some conflict.
If i was to install 32bit libraries, can i do this with an rpm file or would i need to build the packages so i can install it along the current 64bit libraries?
cheers

Pete
