I'm getting an error using Outlook 2003 to get mail from an exchange 2000 server when I'm out of the office. When I "Test Account Settings" all tasks succeed except "Log onto incoming mail server (POP3)". It fails with a "Log onto incoming mail server (POP3: Unable to logon to the incoming mail server (POP3). Please verify the settings in the User Name, Password and E-mail fields." message.

I running Windows XP Pro SP2 with Office 2003.

I'm able to successfully run these tests and get emails with the same account on a system that is running Windows XP Pro SP1 with Office XP. On this system I check the box "Logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)". When I check this box on the SP2 / Office 2003 system, I get an error saying that it needs to be turned off.

Any ideas?

Update:

I've now tried to get email remotely using POP3 with Office XP on a Windows XP Pro SP2 system. I get the same results as above. It still works on a Office XP Windows XP Pro SP1 system, so I'm thinking the problem is with XP SP2.

Any thoughts?

I had this same problem...On your firewall, look for a program named "common client CCapp"- it may be in the symantec folder- and allow it internet and server rights. This allowed Outlook to recieve POP3 e-mails.
