Error when connecting to mysql.exe

Im trying to set up MySql on an appache server on my laptop. However everytime i try to connect to mysql.exe within the bin directory i get the following error message

Access denied for user 'ODBC'@'localhost' <using password:NO>

i have obviously tried to enter a password and the same error message is displayed with the exception of 'password: YES.

I have downloadd ODBC drivers but it made no difference.

CAN ANY ONE PLEASE HELP?????????

It's nothing to do with ODBC, despite what the error says. You should be able to connect as user "root" with the root password you set. When you have connected, you would then want to examine the contents of the mysql.user table, and add/delete users as required.
