On this network there is Lotus 1-2-3 release 9 running on desktops which were Windows 98, and have just been recently upgraded to Windows 2000. The files are being stored on a Netware 4.11 server. Prior to the upgrades to Windows 2000 (and there are some new machines with factory install of Windows 2000), users were able to retrieve a lotus 123 file via the mapped drive, but now that there desktops have been upgraded to Windows 2000 professional, they are no longer able. The error message is as follows:

Error reading file.
Do the following:
*Check to be sure you are not opening a 0 byte file.
*Free memory by closing files and applications that you are not using.
*If necessary, have the file transmitted again using a communications protocol that does not change the file size.

I have reinstalled LOTUS 123, same problem. ALso, if I copy the file from the server, and paste it to the local machine, then I can access the file. ANy suggestions..?

THANKS!

Wow, so me!
I have exactly the same problem (and the
same environment)!
Wonder if it has s.th. to do with installation
under Administrator/Normal user. Let you know,
if i have further insights...

Stay tough!

Hey Roland, thanks for your input. That was exactly it. I saw this problem on the Lotus website, but you needed special access to this article. I went there again about a week and a half later, and it stated that the Novell Client 4.83 was the issue. I appreciate you looking out though.

XP has the same problem. i downloaded 4.83 SP1 from Novell and it worked great. Lotus\IBM response was laughable. they could care less.

Awesome, as always, the Tek-Tips forums prove to provide the solutions to everyday problems, both new and old.

Thanks

(Some of) my colleagues and I have been advising customers
to use the version 4.83 (or higher) for some time now.
I have only just seen this item and I am now advising
them to make sure they have SP1 for version 4.83 Client.
Thanks.
