Error: Can't communicate with the Server Group. Verify Network Connectivity and that machines are operating within the Group! If problem persists, try clearing the Server Group cache and re-discovering all Server Groups."

get this message when trying to unlock the server group. Tried the symantec fix which isn't difficult but it didn't work. As far as I know, nothing changed on the server between yesterday and today. Yesterday it worked fine then. Any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks

try to stop/start the avserver service on the parent server for that group. then see if you can unlock the group

I am having the same problem. Symantec support had me rebuild virus definitions, rebuild the Cache, rebuild the PKI files. My last attempt was to remove the SSC & NAV software, then reinstall. Still, nothing! Since upgrading to NAV 10 then 10.0.1000 we have had nothing but problems.

rsb2112, I found the symantec articles suggesting those same tips but they didn't work also. Stiddy, the stop/restart was the first thing I tried and of course it didn't work. I agree that Corp 10 has given us more problems than previous. I'll keep looking and post any resolution I have. Appreciate it if anyone else can do the same.

Did you walk through the steps in this article?

Each time the server group is unlocked, a certificate serial number is incremented. If this value exceeds 256, this behavior occurs.

To work around the problem, restart the computer and verify the following DWORD value on the primary server:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel\LanDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\ScSComms\LocalData\LoginCaCertIssueSerialNum

If this value is greater than 256, set the value to 1. This value is increased with every server group unlock from any Symantec System Center on the network. If the environment includes multiple Symantec System Centers, this value can increase or exceed the 256 limit quickly. If the Auto-Unlock setting is enabled so that the server group opens automatically, the value increases when Symantec System Center starts.

thanks oggywan. This artcle worked. my value was set to 269. Must learn to refine my search skills since I didn't find this one on there site. Thanks again.

AND thanks again oggywan. I have the same issue for weeks. I never hit this link during my symantec searches. I can't wait to try it out.

Hi Guys. I have a problem (guess that's obvious).

Version
Symantec Security Console version 1.2 / Symantec Anti-Virus 9.0.0.338

Problem. Error "Can't communicate with the Server Group"
Thought this thread reply would be the answer:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Intel\LanDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\ScSComms\LocalData\LoginCaCertIssueSerialNum

However I do not have reg value: \ScSComms??

Can anybody advise?
Many Thanks
Phil.

So does anyone have a solution to this problem that fixes it? I too am having the same issue (Windows 2000 server, SAVCE10).

Well, my problem is a bit tricky. The SAV10 used to be install on server A (W2k serve) and was under the server group Symantec AntiVirus. I removed the server manually as instructed from Symantec's website due to an uninstallation error. Now, I install the SAV10 on server B. On server B, it appears to have only 1 server group, but on my workstation, it shows 2 server groups - Symantec AntiVirus and Symantec AntiVirus (2), which the (2) is server B. I can't seem to unlock or delete the old server group. I tried to push-install the clients, but only a few of them got brought over to server B. I tried that twice with no luck.
I checked the registry in server A and I don't find traces for SAV10. I tried uninstall and reinstall the SSC on my workstation, still the same. Anyone know how I can get rid of the phantom server group?

In the SSC try this:

Tools, Discovery Service, Clear Cache now

This will clear the SSC cache and rediscover all currently existing groups.
