Error opening MS Word

I have a user that is having a problem with Microsoft Word (XP) when ever he opens up the application. upon opening, the following error is displayed:


"This document could not be registered. It will not be possible to create links from other documents to this document."

I have looked through the MS knowledge base and cannot find anything that specifically points to this error message. Does anyone know what might be causing the problem? Any help is appreciated.
