Do chkdsk e: /f and reboot.

It will then do an offline check and fix those errors.

chkdsk e: /r /x

this is the most effective combination I have come across. Itr forces a remount of your hard drive at boot, then runs the check.

What benefit do you get by the remount of the hard drive?

thanks guys, that worked, and fixed the problem :)

/r according to my chkdsk will locate bad sectors and try and recover readable info.

I guess without the /r that bad sectors would simply be mapped out which might cause more problems than it solves.
