I seem to have multiple new occurrences of Access Db errors and am hoping someone has some input. Does anyone know of any unique problems with:
1. Access 97 and Windows 2000/NT
2. Access 97, Windows 2000/NT, and imports of large comma delimited .txt files
Reoccurring are database errors as above from downloaded .txt files which are comma delimited. The import into a table seems to go smoothly but then Access totally locks up so that you can't even exit the application.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. We did just upgrade our hospital McKesson Db and its proprietary SQL product which could be contributory. Exploring all options.
Thanks for any feedback as I am somewhat new to Access and troubleshooting unusual problems.

Has this worked in the past? Did the problems begin following the update of your Hospital Database? Is the database you are working on the same DB, or a separate? If separate try going to Tools/References and adding your Hopsital database as a reference to the new one - only if you're using some functions from the Hospital DB. Just a small idea. Probably won't get you anywhere. I'll keep thinking.

I don't know if this is the cause or not, but I know you get that error message when you try to open a database created with Access 2000 or higher with Access 97.

BTW - Which McKesson app(s) are you running? We are running several here and have used Access successfully to link to many of them......

To jpetersMIS - Yes it has worked in the past. This is a simple flat file import into an Access table of a download file from our Hospital Db. The end-user imports, runs queries and then deletes the data each month.

To CosmoKramer - We only have 1 version of Access on our Network and the end-user does not take it home and work in a different version. We use McKesson's Star clinical & financial apps - this end-user is importing data from Trendstar & Star into tables to do financial comparisons.

Forgot to answer one of my Q's:

Did the problems begin following the update of your Hospital Database?

From Access help, (I would look at the last one first):

Possible causes:

· The specified file name is not a Microsoft Jet database.
· The specified file name is a device name, such as a printer, a console, and so forth.
· The .mdb file has invalid header information or an unknown sort order.
· A commit is pending from another user, but the lock file cannot be found.
· During a commit, you are attempting to write a Long value larger than the 2K maximum page size.
· The database is damaged. Repair and compact the database, and then try opening it again.

To JPeters: It does seem to have occurred since the Hospital Db upgrade. But the end-user isn't 100% sure. My knowledge base about the upgrade changes as they would affect file downloads is limited but I am researching it.

PS - Thanks to all! I'm still learning Access and I can't tell you how much I appreciate your guidance and direction.
I really would be lost without this site!

I did find out that she had 2 tables linked that had different data types. She was using linking to "save memory". She was then doing a repair and compact and Access locked. I'm undoing that link today and reimporting the data into separate tables in the same Db. Any advice/thoughts about whether the link could've been the cause?

Thanks again, Cindy
