I've recently designed a database that is accessed by 6 individuals. Is it possible to get the database to display a message when it is opened, to let the individual know that somebody is already using it. I know this feature is automatic in Excel, e.g. "You are in read only mode". Is this possible?

have you about setting it to exclusive use
Tools /advanced

Hope this helps

I have tried this, however when multiple users open the database, it doesn't give them any kind of warning that someone is in it already. Is there another feature which needs to be enabled?

A couple of questions
Is it to be heavily used ie constant inputting
There will not be any more than 6

Hope this helps

It should only be used by one person at a time, but I want to get it to notify an individual if someone is in it already.

Hi,

Why have a database that users can only use one at a time?
That kinda defeats the object

If you want that then just use excel.

Nowell is right, although you could create a table with a boolean value which is true when the first person opens the database. If the is boolean is true, the next person who tries to open the database get the message...
For your own savety, make an extra possibility to change the value in case of troubles and there is no one in the database, but the value is still true.

:)
