When trying to start routing and remote access on a Windows 2000 server I get the following error...
==========================================================
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7024
Date: 9/13/2002
Time: 2:10:58 PM
User: N/A
Computer: PSC1
Description:
The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error 16389.

I have read the following KB article and the resolution does NOT work.

I have tried removing the server from the server list, rebooting the machine, then adding the server back and configuring. Again, no luck. Thank you in advance for your help.

I am getting this same error as well. What did you find if anything to resolve this?

thanks Doug

I have found the solution for my system that had the exact problem.

This is from the micrsoft BB
try the following steps:
-regsvr32 iassam.dll
-verify the paths and files for IAS logging and make sure the system can access ias.mdb and dnary.mdb files
-get the latest patches.

My system was missing the ias .mdb. When I placed it in the folder (%system root%\system32\ias) and eureka my RRAS started correctly!!!
