Hello,

I am trying to install MS Project Standard 2007 on my Vista Home Premium machine which already has MS Office Standard running happily on it and I am getting a very quick non-descript error message: "microsoft office project standard 2007 encountered an error during setup."

I've tried loading this software from three different sources - main disk, trial disk, and one I burned from an ISO file that I downloaded, all with the same result. No error codes are given, and I've searched for resolutions on microsoft's website and the internet to no avail.

I currently have 76 GB free, no network is involved, and my machine does fit the minimum standards for running MS Office products. Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried installing while in Safe Mode? I just wonder if some driver/startup item is causing the problem... or perhaps a security program?

Either way, running form safe mode could fix the issue... I've not had to do this, myself, but it seems that'd be what I'd try next.

Installing in safe mode didn't work, but it did allow me to see the error code which helped me to trace the problem. I've had Office 2000, Outlook 2003, and Office 2007 happily coexisting on my Vista machine, and I guess Project 2007 didn't like that. I had to uninstall my 2000, 2003,and 2007 versions, use Windows Install Cleanup, re-install Office 2007, then install Project 2007.

After all of that, Excel 2007 would pop up with 'stdole32.tlb' in a dialogue box then kick into setup every time I entered into the program. To fix this next problem, I used the Windows update to install the most current service pack on MS Office. A file repair using the command prompt did not fix this problem.

It's been a long day, but I hope this helps someone else at some point.
