Hi Friends,

I have a ultra-10 machine with solaris-8.When the machine boots i get a error saying"IDPROM checksum error" after the banner.I am able to login to the machine and do my normal activities.

I am worried if this error is a serious error or some hardware error which wud affect my machine sometimes later?

If this error is not a serious error how can i avoid this error displaying in the console. Is there any file were i can edit and stop this error?

Any kind of tips or soloution for this error is welcome.

Thanx for ur time.

With regards,

krishna

Looks like it is most probably a failure of the embedded battery of the NVRAM.
Solution : Get a replacement NVRAM, Sun can set a new NVRAM for you with your hostid and that type of info on it. Too bad I.T. is not cash business

Yes you have a problem in the NVRAM chip, it might be corrupt, you can always try and flash upgrade it.

Go to sunsolve.sun.com and download the latest flash Prom for the U10
the info is below

Patch-ID# 106121-16
Keywords: Desktop Standalone Flash PROM Update
Synopsis: Hardware/PROM: Ultra 5/10 Standalone Flash PROM Update
