* second issue loaded 512mb memory to my pc and computer is reading only the 512mb -- previous memory was 256 -- should = 768 mb ???

...you'll get more info on the slots if necessary and maybe even pertinent mobo info,etc

can't login to windows to have permissions to install software?
should be cured by adding
del /y c:\windows\*.pwl
to your autoexec.bat - make sure after you reboot that you remove it and naturally the user accounts will need to be recreated.
