I get an error during the database creation part of the Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.0.1) install.

Error:
ORA-12540: TNS:internal limit restriction exceeded.

Can anyone help.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Have you set a max connections parameter anywhare?

Th error message ( expanded) is:

TNS-12540 TNS:internal limit restriction exceeded

Cause: Too many TNS connections open simultaneously.

Action: Wait for connections to close and retry.

Check your listener.ora file for any limits on connections...

I have not changed anything from the default values. Oracle has never been installed on this machine before.

Hi, and just to clarify, you are attempting to create the database on that same machine?

An ORA-12540 can be a result of the processes parameter in the "init.ora" being too low. Processes should be set to the number of background processes plus one for each connection to the database.

Hope that helps,

Hi All,

Just to clarify. I'm getting the error during the installation of the Oracle Enterprise R2 Database suite.

As part of the installation a new DB is created. I'm following the tutorial by using 'orcl.world' for the Global Database Name and 'orcl' for the SID. I accept the default location to install the DB, 'C:\oracle\oradata' and use the default character set. Then click Install.

The Install reports the error "ORA-12540: TNS:internal limit restriction exceeded." when attempting to create the new DB.

I appreciate your help.

Hi,
Are you installing from downloaded files or the CD?

Hi All,

Firstly, thanks for your input.

I did get it to install OK, after turning ZoneAlarm off. I guess this was stopping connections to the DB. I do not understand why as its on the local machine.

Anyway, it works fine now. Once again, thanks for all your help.
