Hi

I created a workflow and trying to start it in workflow designer workflows->Startworkflow.

I am getting an error:Cannot Connect to the Server.

I installed Informatica Server on a standalone system and I have Oracle 10g as my database installed on teh same system.

In server Configuration, its resolving the system.

Both Informatica and Informatica repositiry Services were started and runnign.

What path i need to mension while configuring the server.
In $PM Root Dir: am giving the following path, where i installed informatica server.
C:\Program Files\Informatica PowerCenter 7.1.1

Please suggest me to resolve this problem.

Thanks in advance

If you are running Informatica Server on windows based machine, another place to check is to make sure that your Oracle Services are also up and running before your start your Informatica Server

Hello Gurus

I too get the same message "Cannot Connect to server" from workflow. I have configured the server, it is up and running, the services are started.

What can be the problem?

Please help ...

Hi Venku,

Can you give me some more details concerning "System Name" and "Informatica Server Name"?

I am new at this thing.

Thanks for your reply !

Hi ,

Are you using informatica at work environment or using it personellay...i mean if you are using it on a individula system then u need to take care of your sysetem name. ie
while instaling the os in to ur system you need to give some name. That neame and the informatica server name should be the same...

hope this may helps..or let me know about ur setup....

Thanks Venku

I am using my local machine (XP) and the DB is also on the local machine.

I can create the repository successfully, I created the folder, source and target mapping, workflow. I created the server (myServer) in workflow but:

The service starts and stops (Informatica)
It cannot connect to the server (myServer)

How can I find the System Name? Where is it stored in XP?

Thanks for your kind help

System Name is ur computer Name.

MYCOMPUTER->PROPERITIES->NETWORKIDENTIFICATION(NEXT TAB AFTER GENERAL) Here u can see the computer name.

Cross check the following. If you are not doing any of the below given things...Reconfigure by folloing these things...
I think, this will work...

Configuring your Repository server in Informatica
- Go to the Repository Server Administration Console and double click on Informatica Repository Servers under console root navigator.
- Here you should see your system name, right click on your system name and click connect. The password over here would be the one that you entered while installing the informatica.
- This should connect you to your local server, i.e. your local host (your system). Now you have a folder called repositories, right click on it and click new repository. Type in the repository name that you like.
- On the Database Connection tab, enter:
Database Type : Oracle
Connect String : your database name that you gave while installing your RDBMS
DB User : system
Password: your password that your gave while installing RDBMS
- Now go to the Licenses tab, here in the license key field copy and paste your license key and click update button. Do the same with the connectivity key and click update. Now you should see the list of licenses in the space below.
- Click apply and then click Ok and the software should say that connecting to the repository.
- After a while, you will see your repository name in your workspace which would say running.
Configuring your PM server
- Go to the informatica server setup and click continue.
- On the server tab,
Server name: your system name (this would be your pm server name)
TCP/IP host address: would be your system’s ip address
Server log: output to a file named pmserver.log
- On the Repository tab,
Repository Name: your repository name
Repository User: informatica user
Repository password: informatica password
Repository Host Name: your system name
Port number: 5001
- Click apply and then click ok and then click exit

Create your Folder
- Now go to the Repository manager. Here you should be able to see your repository. Right click on it and click connect. Now click on the Folders tab on the main menu and click create. Here type the name you want for your folder and give the full permissions for read, write and execute to this folder and click ok.

Assigning the PM Server
- Now go to the work flow manager. On the main menu, click the server tab and on there click server configuration. Here click on the New button. Here the host name should be your system name, server name should be your pmserver name (system name) and then click resolve server button on the right. This would give you the ip address in the next field.
- Now click advanced button and for the PMRootDir attribute type in c:\pmlogs. Before you do this, go to c:\ and create a directory by this name.
- Right click on the pmserver and click run monitor. The monitor should show that your pmserver is connected

Thanks a lot

I will try out these steps.

Appreciate your help
