When I start cron daemon by /usr/sbin/cron in AIX 4.3, the system says "already running cron daemon", even though no cron is running. What is the reason. Please replay.

cron would usually start by default and is set to respawn if killed. Are you sure it's not already running?

I want to be good, is that not enough?

Usually you don't need to start cron manually! it is usually started by inittab!

You can check the cron process using the ps command!

ps -ef | grep cron

Thanks for your replay.
Tried all these. Eventhogh cron is not running, why it is saying that it is running. It is writing this process id in some file, I don't know which file.

By the way, have you checked the errpt report? Is there any thing useful?

To ALL,
The directory /var/locks was removed. After creating this directory cron started working.
