I recieve the following message on IE 5.5 sp 2 128bit windows 2000 sp 2

The description for event 1000 in source Microsoft Internet Explorer cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message Dll files to display message from a remote computer

Iexplore.exe 5.51.4807.2300 Mshtml.dll 5.50.4807.2300 00194868

I have tried to upgrade to IE 6 no avail i have also reinstalled win2k sp2.

I have tried to register MSHTML.dll with regsvr32 didnt work i then tried to unregister the file and recieved the following message

dllunregister failed with reference 0x8000ffff

It is only one web site that has this problem and as far as i can tell it seems that IE is just missing something to load the web site but i dont know what it could be.

If anyone has some insight as to what mshtml.dll is or what the reference message means it would be of great help as well if anyone else has seen this message i would like to know.

Thank you in advance.

By any chance do you have Gator installed on your PC? If you do uninstall it and see if the error continues. joegz

I'll check he may have inadvertantly installed it. Gator is a nasty program.

Gator is not installed on the machine. I haven't tried to use any spyware removal software or anything but its not in add/remove programs. Any other ideas?

Thank you.

Is there a list of all the DLL's that are asociated with IE floating around somewhere?
