Hi,

I tried to replace my Oracle client 8.1.7.3 with the 9.2.0.1

I deinstalled the version 8 client and when I tried to install the version 9 client, I got this error message:

Error in creating a registry key
Permission is denied

The log shows:

Calling action w32RegActions2.2.0.6.0 RegCreateKey
selectedNodes = null
Key = HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
SubKey = OracleOLEOMSBridge.920

Exception thrown from action: RegCreateKey
Exception Name: CreatePermissionDeniedException
Exception String: Error in creating a registry key. Permission denied.
Exception Severity: 0

I tried to delete every Oracle key from the registry but it didn't help.

So I decided to get back to client 8 but now I get the exact same message when I try to install it.

What have I done wrong? And more important what should I do to get this fixed?

Thanks,

I forgot to specify that I am running under Windows 2000 adv server SP4.

I solved the problem.
I don't know how this happened but the administrators group had no more rights to edit the registry keys under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
The problem is I didn't knew where to search to find these rights.
Eventually, I opened regedt32 (I always use regedit) and there was the security menu I was searching for.
I gave back the right to the admin and now everything works.
