Error ID 1509

Hi Guys

I have a windows 2003 server and XP workstations with one shared mandatory profile.

Every so often I have to delete a users profile as im getting a Error ID 1509

See example error below. Why would this happen any ideas,

The error is always the same but a diffewrent file name.

Well looks like permissions are lost to that file. My question is what do you have a shared profile and how are you doing this?

Hi dberg

Yes have a shared profile.

Made a profile copied it to a server.

Changed it to .man

Copied it to server

Then pointed users in OU to the profile.

The path is too long

"DETAIL - The filename or extension is too long"

The max path length is 260 characters. The workaround would be to change the temporary internet files location.

How to change Temporary Internet Files location in Internet Explorer?
To change Temporary Internet Files location in Internet Explorer 7.0:
• Click the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
• The Internet Options dialog window will appear.
• Open the "General" tab.
• In the "Browsing history" area, click the "Settings..." button.
• In the "Temporary Internet Files and History Settings" window, click the "Move folder..." button.
• Select new Temporary Internet Files location

To change Temporary Internet Files location in Internet Explorer 6.x:
• Click the Tools menu and select Internet Options.

Im sure the permissions are ok as I have had them checked by a consultant but will read up and check again.

If i was to change the temopry internet file location can this be changed via the group policy as i have over 100 workstations on the network.

And where should i change this location to would C:/temp be ok

Looking a the registry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\Cache

Would a script sort this out?

Not that I could write it!

Also when I read the error it look like its trying to copy a file from the server to the workstation.

From

\\SERVER\profiles\profile.man\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files

TO

C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files

I get this error but with different file names.

When I have looked at the profile the temporary internet file folder is empty.
