Enterpise My Database connection type is ODBC.I have a report in my Crystal Enterprise ,When using the existing connection for a report setting it will not update,I receive the following message.

Error
Failed to open the connection.

But when I go back and update the original file it works fine.

Please post your software version.

This doesn't really help much:

"When using the existing connection for a report setting it will not update,I receive the following message."

Where arte you using an existing connection, and what are you commecting to?

When do you receive the error, when trying to set it or when trying to run the report?

I suggest that you state specifically what your are trying, where, and the outcome.
You need to go into the CMC to set a report's connectivity for Crystal Enterprise, hwo one does so is based on the version of CE.

This occurs when I am in the CMC under the under
home/folders/report on the process tab and subtab database.
The first option says use existing report data.

i am using Crystal Reports Server V. 11.5

And is that ODBC set up on the CRS? It has to be.

Why not post your database type?

Still new to this,

Is database type the Windows Server 2003, that's what we have.

Windows 2003 Server is the operating system.

Database type refers to which type of database is the report pulling its data from. Is it Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, Sybase etcetera. There are dozens of them.

Crystal Reports connects to your database via a particular method. Usually it is ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) but could be one of many other methods.

Whatever method was used to connect to the database when the report was dsigned must also be configured identically on the Crystal Reports Server machine.

If you open the report into Crystal Reports, click on Database, Set Datasource Location and expand out the Properties listing in the Current Data Source Window, you will see the database type.

Whatever it is, this datasource connection must be setup on the Crystal Reports Server box identically to how it is setup on the PC on which Crystal Reports is installed.

When a Crystal Report is published to Crystal Reports Server, it needs the correctly configured datasource to enable the report to run and successfully pull data from your database.

Thank you, I figured it out. I was testing Crystal Report Server on my Test Server, but the report was created on the Main Server and pulled into the test server through Objects.
I corrected this by changing the datasorce to the test server and now it updates and views perfectly.

Thanks.
