Had an error at then end of a backup while attempting to save the Arcserve database - error E4107 Unable to Update Job Record . On looking on the CA web site found a TYopic concerning this error. The recommended fix was, if the were a load of rAAAAAAAAA rAAAAABB etc file this showed signs of corruption.
The resolution was to delete these files in the DATABASE directory after stopping the services then recommend a re-boot.
The result of this being, ARCserve DB service would not start until these supposed corrupt files weere restored back to the original location. Once restored all seemed to start working.
The server is running 2000 Advanced Server SP3 and Arcserve has SP4 applied .

How do I fix this POSSIBLE DB corruption ?

There are two reasonably good CA docs on this:

They explain how the Dbase works (or not) and has some fixes.

Couple of points:
If you are runing a dbfix then make sure no jobs kick in or that asmgr is not running.
Check for rds.exe process in the TaskMgr to see if it has hung, if you can - kill it before restarting DBeng.
The DB has to working to some degree before any dbfix will run.
Your two largest databases are likely to be asobject and astpsdat.

The raaaa*.chg files - there will always have one there - I believe it acts as some kind of swap file. The others just seem to stack up.

Cheers, Andy.

Also there are some faqs in this forum that might help, see the Database Engine section.
