Hi All,

Version 10. 2003 server sp

All of the sudden i am unable to backup any of my drives. Had a look on 1 of the symantec forums and it is recommended to upgrade to 10d.

Is it true? i find it a bit hard to believe. The error makes reference to AOFO and we not using it.

That error is so generic. Did the backup exec service account password change or something?

Hi Steveot,

no none of the accounts has expired. It backs up some data (user mailboxes and then it fails.. I am unable to backup my C & D drives.. this is a straightforward installation we have for our branches..

Ok its getting worse.. these are normal drive backups and i see its happen to a lot of the branch backups.

I cannot see anything strange..

So if backup exec didnt change what changed in your environment? Rights/group policies take away permissions?

Titann - did you solve your issue? - I'm having close to the same problem - all of a sudden my job started failing when it tries to backup a single SQL bak file on a 2nd server with the remote agent running on it. I've tried creating new jobs and cant get it to backup anything on this remote agent server.

Guys,

Is there a solution for this in the meantime. I got a same problem, I added this week a new server running SQL 2005 to the backup jobs. I have only a Remote agent installed on it but am not backing up files from the active databases. I have other SQL servers I backup that way, and without any issue there (but those are SQL 2000).

Had the same problem backing up with ver 10 SP5.

Backing up a win 2003 sp2 server ( failing ) on another 2003 sp2 server . Not running sharepoint or exchange .

Symantech/Veritas wont give you the media or the link to the 10d install disk .

I started testing the upgrade process as follows .

Installed 10 then installed SP5 be5484RSP5_286626.exe
and then be5484RHF39_289170.exe .

Restart

Installed the serial numbers that im licensed for .

Keep in mind that Im using a TEST laptop with vista on so it keeps on moaning it is not supposed to work ......

The first test backup of the failing server gave the same error , backed up something else on a different server sucsess .

So started installing 10d , it actualy picked up the previous licenses registerd on my test laptop .

Restart.

Try to backup the failing server on the test laptop gives error ( needs new remote agent on failing server to work )

TEST: Restore 10sp5 backup - WORKS .

Install new remote agent to server .

Restart server .

Try backup again , Vista laptop gives error about the device not being connected when doing the selection to the server .

CRY A LITTLE

Try to backup the failing server from the original backup server . Freaking works ....

Looks like the 10d remote agent did the trick will update tommorow after tonights full system backup .

If your windows 2003 SBS server has resently installed an update and your backup exec v10 stops working upgrade to 10d as described above often fixes it I have completed this procces on 3 window 2003 sbs server with success
