I have recently begun receiving the following error when trying to publish from FrontPage 2000

Could not find a web server at' on port 80. Please check to make sure that the web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly. If you are sure that everything is correct. the web server may be temporarily out of service.

I've checked my proxy settings and they are fine. Has anyone else encountered this? I'm thinking it might be something on the server side that is causing this. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Laura.

Make sure you check the obvious--you have the website address correct. Even if you think it is, doublecheck it because it might just be one letter off. If it's okay, it's something on your host's end, and you'll need to check with them.

Laura,

I get this message almost daily when trying to publish to one of my sites. I think it happens to me the more times I publish. Check your live site to make sure the server isn't down temporarily. Sometimes the solution is as simple as closing FP and opening it back up.

If it continues to happen the to me this is break time. I turn my PC off and back on, do a disk cleanup and run defragmenter. I then restart and open FrontPage again. Sometimes this will get things moving smoothly again. Make sure you empty your browser cache and get rid of unnecessary cookies. In general, I think it is a good idea to set your browser settings to clear history every time it closes.

If this becomes a continual problem, then I would go to the site control panel and either reset the FrontPage extensions or turn them off and back on. Make sure you have your current up to date web saved to disk before turning off the extensions.

I don't understand exactly why the extensions become corrupt, but it can be sometimes because you are using both FTP and FrontPage publishing. I have done both frequently, but now rely primarily on FP publishing.
Hope I have been of some help,
Micheal

I am still experiencing this issue. Thanks to everyone who has offered suggestions.

Micheal,

I've been publishing with Frontpage for over a year without issues. The error message started occuring after someone tried to "clean up" the server. I've checked everything that they removed and none of it involves extensions. I've rebooted the server several times. You're right, if I shut down my system and try again, it usually lets me publish. But if I try to again in the same login session I get the error message. It's completely frustrating. Thanks for your help.

Laura.

If you are using Microsoft Proxy Server ask the Server admin people to temporarily turn off the proxy server or ensure they have allowed you permisions to use FTP to publish by logging of the server you are releasing the port and as Proxy only allows 25 concurrent users. Also try logging on as an administrator.

I have run into this problem twice now. I had to have my ISP reinstall the FrontPage server extensions and this corrected the problem.

HELP!! I have tried all of the above solutions and nothing has worked. Any other suggestions.

I really don't know how we corrected the issue. It was a bunch of hit and miss. I do know that there are numerous issues with FrontPage server extensions, far too many to mention. We ended up rebuilding our server from scratch and everything seemed to work fine from there.

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

Laura.
