Hey all,

I'm trying to copy user folders from a Netware 5.0 server over to my Windows 2000 server but I keep getting the following error: "cannot copy filename.txt: error performing inpage operation" (on different files). I checked on the Microsoft site and they say that this error occurs when copying from a floppy. Any ideas on how I can get all of my users' files copied over?

Thanks,

Joe Brouillette

Hello, Joe

I'm definitely sure, that you 'r using GSNW on your W2k Server for this operation. That is the problem. GSNW works through IPX/SPX ONLY and it's a quite buggable addition to W2k. I'd reccommend you to use some separate workstation with W2kPro or W2kServ with Novell Client 4.83sp1 installed.
Delete GSNW from your W2k server. Then copy all the necessary files from NNW to Workstation and from worksattion to W2k Server.
NEVER install Novell Client on Production server.

Hope it will help you.

Actually, if you map drives to both servers on the workstation, you can go from the Novell folder to the Windows folder without downloading the files to the workstation. Should save you a step.

Thanks for both of your suggestions.

Victor why should you never install the client on the server?? have you run into any problems?

Hello, Almorga

During installation Novell client, it replaces some significantly important dll's that leads to unstable W2kServer behavor. For example, it can drop all the mapped drives from the Novell Servers and so on. Anyway, probably you agree, that Novell Client never was among the best Novell products. So, I would recommend in the worsest situation to use GSNW instead of Novell Client. But GSNW has a lot of bugs , futhermore it works through IPX/SPX only... :( so watch your self.
