error connectig to site

I just reinstalled my iis 4.0 due to a server change. This server is used for testing purpose only.
I do have a PC that connect to this server. When i enter

http://www.t.tst

in IE 6.0 to test the IIS setup, I do get the following error:.

Server Configuration Error
The server has encountered a configuration error attempting to process your request. The configuration parameter MD_ANONYMOUS_USER_NAME (6020) has an invalid value. Please contact the server administrator for assistance.

The hosts file on the PC have an entry for 192.168.1.58

http://www.t.tst.

The setup in IIS for the web site is correct I believe. The Website Identification Description, IP and Port match my previous setup.
Where should I make a correction to allow me to connect to my web site.

This sounds like u have ur NTFS anonymous permissions set incorrectly (or the registry values are corrupted). Go to ur INETPUB directory and make sure the permissions are set correctly.

To do so, simply right click the folder

http://wwwroot

(i'm assuming that's ur default folder) then goto properties.. under securty tab look to see if u have the permissions set up for IUSER. If u don't see it then simply add it back in. If that's set up properly then go into IIS .. right click on website.. make sure u're ALLOWING anonymous assess or else it won't work.

If this doesn't work let me know.

A long time but I tried and it didn't work. In the mean time I used my ISP Server, but I need to understand why my test server is not working.

I therefore retry it today after rechecking the answer from lck092580 and I allways get the same error message.

I can add the following info:

For memory the setup is as folow:
The IP and site name on the server are 192.168.1.10 and

http://www.t.tst

I tried the following from the PC:
- Ping to 182.168.1.10 - I get a reply
- Ping to

http://www.t.tst

- I get a reply
- On the IE browser, I type

http://www.t.tst

- This give me the following error:

“The server has encountered a configuration error attempting to process your request. The configuration parameter MD_ANONYMOUS_USER_NAME (6020) has an invalid value. Please contact the server administrator for assistance. “

The easiest, quickest way to solve that is by changing the username used for IIS internet users (IUSR_blahblah).

I do have IUSR_SERVER1 for Internet Guest Account. Is-it what you are referring to?
