error code 0c31

i am installing a new server (IBM pSeries 660 H1) server running AIX 5L (5.0).

This server does not boot but gives error code 0c31.

What is the cause and what are the steps to be taken in resolving this.

The error is because of missing console. Connect a serial console and boot from there

sometimes you cannot see the prompts on your screen, particularly if using graphical terminal. you can get around this because AIX sends a different number to each attached terminal, so start by pressing 0 then ENTER, then 1 then ENTER, etc, until it passes C31. if you could see the output, it would be telling you to "Press 0 then Enter to use this as the system console" or some such text. try using the diagnostics cd, it will load the software bundle for graphics and for use with the lft0 console
