Hi,
I recently installed Red Hat Linux Advanced Server 2.1 on an Itanium2 box - but I cant seem to start X server on it.
Could anyone please advice?

Thanks in advance.

I had exported DISPLAY=:0 earlier. Forgive me for not posting the entire error message:
Error: Can't open display: :0

X server does not start...

Thanks.

export DISPLAY and xhost + will only run when the xserver is running.
what error do you get when starting x?

"If you always do what you've always done, you will always be where you've always been."

Yes, I am trying to run startx and I get the following error messages:

------------------------------------
Fatal server error:
no screens found

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X
server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events
remaining
------------------------------------

Thanks.

Your XF86Config has not been created properly
Not sure what options Redhat gives you to configure this but I think the setup command has an option for it in RH 9

check your hostname. Make sure that it is in /etc/hosts.

If you are using DHCP then it might not be in /etc/hosts.

Add it there.

Hi,

try export DISPLAY=hostname:0.0
or =ip_adrress:0.0

If export is not found start up bash or ksh before

Hi Bipasha
At the time of installing use generic display driver and for graphics use generic vesa driver.Your problem will be solved.

I would begin by looking through your X logs to see if there's any obvious problems there first.
