I am running internet explorer 5 on windows 2000 Pro and recieve the following error message.
error: cannot find server or dns error.
I also recieve the following message if I do not type http:// before the address. I have looked on the microsoft knowledge base and the is nothing stated for windows 2000.
I can ping 127.0.0.1 in command prompt, but I cannot ping any other sites. I have gone through the steps on trouble shooting internet explorer on the knowledge base site. Either the steps were not relevent to windows 2000 or they made no difference to the internet connection. I have checked the IP configuration and the LAN settings and I am now stuck.
Any advice is greatfully appriated.

Thanks but the check boxes are already cleared in the security options

Maybe you should try upgrading to Internet Explorer 6.0. Hopefully this will fix your problem.

I will give it a go and let you know how I got on. Thanks for your help
