error 781 when trying to connect to a Win2k VPN server...

Anyone know what this problem is and how to solve it?
I can connect to the VPN server fine on the LAN side (the server has two NICs, one with an internal IP and one with an real internet IP) but not on the internet IP.

Are you using PPTP or L2TP?

I'm pretty sure it's L2TP with windows 2000. The server is setup to handle both.

I think you will find that it will work if you dial in from outside your network. It has to do with a loop issue.

I had the same issue, configured and tested fine on the internal LAN. But when I try to connect to the VPN (with external IP) from within the LAN, it fails. Test it from outside, works perfectly.

Be sure the certificate is being stored in the local machine store or the machine wont even attempt to make the connection.
