Hi, this problem started last week and is happening everyday. I'm getting error 7031 "The IIS Admin service terminated unexpectedly".

I have installed the post sp3 for exchange, still the same error.

I was thinking about reinstalling IISAs anyone done this before, how were the results of the reinstall, THANKS FOR ANY HELP

You don't need to reinstall IIS.

You have a corrupt email in your badmail folder.

I have a stunning work around. Are you running Windows 2000?

Go to the IIS Admin service. Change the properties:

After first fail: Restart service
After second fail: Restart service
After third fail: Run file

Filename c:\iisadmin.bat

Contents of IISadmin.bat:

rd c:\exchsrvr\mailroot\vsi1old /s /q
ren "c:\exchsrvr\mailroot\vsi 1" vsi1old
c:
cd \exchsrvr\mailroot
md "vsi 1"

net start "IIS Admin Service"
net start "Microsoft Exchange IMAP4"
net start "Simple Mail Transport Service (SMTP)"
net start "World Wide Web Publishing Service"

net send emailSVR "IIS Admin service failed and has been restarted automatically, please check the logs"

-------

To get your server going now, just find the VSI 1 folder and delete the contents then start the services listed in the batch file and you are clear.

Someone asked me why I did a netsend and not email myself. What is the Exchange Info Store goes as well, I replied...

I have already renamed the vs1 folder many times to get the server up and running.

Yes W2K SP4 with Exchange 2000 SP3 with new sp3 update

I've done that many times..rename the vs1 directory but the problem keeps coming back.

I have wk2 sp4 and exchange 2000 sp3 with the new update

Try that solution above. It works for me and I was getting stung regularly.

I also followed the usual grail of securing the server against relays which helps drop some rubbish before it 7031's.

I have this happen every couple of days. It seems to be spam & NDR related. Any ideas?
