Error 547 Write Protect

Im using HP SureStore Dat24, I have an on going problem with running the 2.5 hr backup at night. When I come in the tape can't start and I get a write protected error 547. I can go in and start and run manually no problem, it's just everyone has to be off the server. Tape ware say's its a hardware problem, but the drive is on 3 years old. I bout all new tapes and still having the problem, It may run ok for a couple of days or months then all of a sudden stops working. Any ideas?

what version of Tapeware and servicepack is it?
How often did you cleaned you drive?
What's the firmware on you drive?

We are using Tapeware Master SVR PK ver 7.0
I clean once a week.
Bought all new tapes and for the last few weeks no problems. I did find that if I used the old tapes and erased them first, they would give me the write protect error at that point and would not format either so I filed them in the round filing cabinet and go on my merry way. I've had it go for months without error then all of a sudden a whole batch. Once I get a good backup all seem to be fine, but it my go funky for a week before the "magic" happens.
