WinXP SP2 - I.E 6.01 - Outlook Express

When I try to change the font of a "reply" (Format/font), this is the error I get. I tried Thunderbird (didn't like it), and didn't have the problem. Don't know when it started, I know changing the font used to work.

No, no solution yet. I had a week of e-mail (back and forth) with Microsoft, and after trying everything they suggested, the only solution they could think of was a re-install of XP. One strange thing came up in the "tries", the MS KB on how to reinstall I.E., it says to change a cople of lines in the registry (to eliminate the "newer version installed" message). I changed them, and still got the "newer version" message. That's when MS said to re-install XP. To me, it's not that much of a problem to call for a complete re-install!

I fully agree with you. MS suggested the same to me. I did not attempt it.

The only thing that I am committed to try is to create a new user and see if the problem persists. I did boot to safe mode and found the problem is still there.

Does the Format toolbar work for you? It does for me.

I am on Win XP Pro SP2 and all patches in.

Yes, I can click on "Format" with no problem. When I click on "Fonts", is when I get the errors.

Just to be clearer. I can change the font using the FORMAT toolbar. I cannot change the font by right-clicking or by choosing the font in the drop-down list. That is when I get the error 501 message.

I willkeep this topic informed as to progress or lack thereof.

I can't change either way. Get same 501 error.

Have you tried a new Windows user and see if the problem persists?

Seymour

I set up a new WinXP user ( I was the only one) and the problem went away when I logged in as the new user.

I am working with MS to repair the original problem.
