ei guys, what is error 500 on internet explorer? is it more likely on the httpd service? i tried restarting the httpd service of my website but it seemed not to work. I also tried using the IP of the site instead of the domain name but it won't pull up the site... please help coz its down for like three days already... im completely clueless. Another thing is on shared hosting, is there only one httpd service for all? thanks in advance. Happy holidays everyone! =)

Check your error logs. Its your webserver saying 'Internal Server Error' which means 'Something went wrong with the request'. With IE it also masks as 'generic error', IE is stupid that way.

Your error log will have details. This is your best bet.

You can also try, from the DOS prompt, 'telnet localhost 80'

If you get a prompt back your webserver is running. If not then its not running and you need to start it up.

Shared hosting varies from provider to provider, there is not constant. Some do it with one httpd some do it with 1 per customer.

thanks so much i restarted the server :)
