The error message (in full - sorry)

This expression is typed incorrectly, or it is too complex to be evaluated. For example, a numeric expression may contain too many complicated elements. Try simplifying the expression by assigning parts of the expression to variables. (Error 3071)

The database has multiuser access and uses linked SQL Server 6.5 tables.

Previously steadfast reports now increasingly come up with this error. The same report in a different smaller database runs fine. Am I hitting some unknown limitation?

Sounds to me like its a "best guess" error message - I doubt very much if the actual problem is related to the error reported. If I were you - I would do a search on MS web site for a "known issues" (they dont call them bugs) with SQL server 6.5.

Also look at what has changed to cause this error to suddenly occur (from what you say I imagine that these queries have run without problem in the past.)

Sorry I cant help any more..

P.S Here is a link to a relevant site :

Thanks for the quick feedback - I agree that this is the Mr vague of error messages, but I've been through the entire report to check for syntax errors etc and found nothing.

Previously, I've had this error for a report run on one PC, and so run it on another PC accessing the same database and same report and it worked!!. But right now it fails on all PC's.

Thanks for the response Oppenhiemer.

Admittedly there are a few IF statements - does anyone know if this could be a cause of my problems?
