Error 1920 Insufficient Privledges to start service 1

Trying to isntall Crystal Reports Server on a new computer with Windows 2003 Server. Installation stops and I get Error 1920 Insufficient Privledges to start service. I've done some searching on this but nothing has helped. I'm logged on as a domain admin which is also a local admin. I've tried logging on to the domain and just locally on the computer. I'm installing on a non-system drive if that matters. Also, I gave full control permissions on the drive to administrators and the System account.

make sure the account that is being used to start the service has the proper rights. Such as logon as a service and check if any GPO my be overiding and local settings.

Where do I give the account permission to log on as a service? It's an administrator...shouldn't it already have that? And what is GPO? Sorry, I'm an application person not windows.

An account in the admins group would have it by default. There may be other rights needed that are not there by default. Do you have a sys admin for the server or are you it? Is the server part of an AD domain? If so, Group Policy may be applying, if not don't worry about GPO.

I'm having this exact problem on my Windows 2003 server. Did you ever get this resolved? If so how?

Nope, not resolved. I have a scheduled support call with MS Windows team on Tuesday. I'll post if I get it working.

I was able to resolve this later that day. It was appearing to be the Data Execution Protection, "DEP" that was stopping the start of the service and throwing the 1920 error at the end of the install. I chose to ignore the message and let the install finish without starting the service. then restarted the server. When it came back up it gave me the Data Execution Protection message saying that you could add Crystal Reports to the program exception list. I did this and then went into services and was able to start the service. I did get into a loop of messages but I think what I did was stop and start the service and then closed the messages and they stopped. Hope this helps you. Let me know.

Yep, this pretty much did it!! Thank you so much!! It was driving me absolute nuts and I was under a lot of preasure to get it done. I was on vacation so I finally got back to it today.

It was like you said except I had numerous services that failed to start that I had to click Ignore to. Then, when I rebooted I got a bunch of those DEP messages. After a few, I just hit close without adding them all as exceptions. They all said something like Business Objects with no further distinction so I thought they were all the same. When I tried to start the services they all started except the Crystal Cache Server. I had to find where to adjust the DEP exceptions (Control Panel-System-Advanced-Performance-Settings-DEP). I checked the last couple and then it started!

Now I'm just trying to figure out how to configure and start the CMS server thing. Then I have to install and configure the Sharepoint Integration kit.
