Error 1326 when attempting to install Access 2003

I am attempting to install Access 2003 on my 32 bit Windows 7 Professional N laptop. I had Office Professional Plus 2010 installed when I first started this process. While installing from a mounted ISO, I receive the following error from the Windows intaller:


Microsoft Office Access 2003 Setup

Error 1326. Error getting file security: C:\Users\Paul Miller\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OFFICE\ GetLastError: 5.

A search for this error did not turn up anything helpful. I have my laptop partioned so that my data is stored on D:\. I had attempted to install the program to the D drive when the C drive install failed. When that did not resolve the problem, I then took ownership of all files in the C:\Users\Paul Miller\AppData folder and subfolders, but that also did not resolve the problem.

I have since completely uninstalled Office Professional Plus 2010 and Visio 2010 and the install still fails. I ran chkdsk and all tools at Tweakwindows.com, still no luck. I have also attempted installation from a CD instead of a mounted ISO, nothing.

Any suggestions? This is driving me crazy!

Thanks Remou. I just tried that and the utility did not detect any problems to repair. There is a FixIt at

that I also ran on the suggestion of a Microsoft troubleshooter, but no luck.

After that, it is probably worth contacting Microsoft, they can be quite helpful

Thanks Remou. The fellow over at Microsoft was indeed able to assist. For anyone else that has this problem, following are the other steps I tookk:

1) Right-clicked setup.exe and ran as administrator. No luck.
2) Logged out of my account and, although that account was an admin, I logged in to the built-in Administrator account. I was able to install Access 2003 successfully. I then installed Office 2010 Professional Plus, opting to keep Access 2003 installed, and that was also successful.
3) I logged out of the Administrator account and back in to my personal account. I opened Access 2003 successfully. I closed A2003 and opened A2010. I ran into a file security error, so I Took Ownership of C:\Users\Paul Miller.

After that, everything went perfectly. Thanks!
