Greetings, & Happy TG:
I'm very new at publishing a page. Published a test pg in a matter of seconds yesterday with no problem. Last night, I modified the page a bit & attempted to re-publish it.

Have repeatedly received the following error msg after about 10 mins:
"Server error: could not get a read lock for Microsoft Internet Information Server cached information."

I've searched extensively for the answer for approximately 4 - 5 hrs. Have emailed tech support at the host, but now response yet, probably due to the holiday. They did respond within an hour on a question yesterday morning.

FP2K
WinMe
Host: GoDaddy (FP extensions enabled)

Thanks very much for any help
take care,

Thank you so much for your response.

In the meantime, I've created yet another problem. I re-installed FP. Now, I don't even have the option "Publish Web".. it is ghosted.

If you have a suggestion, I'd be very thankful.

take care,
nan

I've only seen a ghosted Publish icon when there's no web open. Forgive me if this is too obvious, but does it appear ghosted with a Web open? If so, can you access 'Publish Web...' under 'File'?

No need to ask forgiveness, I'm the dork here!
I very much appreciate your help!!

So, having said that.. let me really show my ignorance--
by "web", you don't mean just a single page? After I read your question, I went to File / Open Web.. my .html doc was not there - nothing was. I've obviously made a junior-level mistake.

I'll keep exploring, and be happy to follow any instructions you have time to send.

thanks,

Understood. :)

I strongly recommend you use the lesssons that came with FP. If you're using FP2000 you should have a tutorial book and I suggest going through at least the first few chapters.

A Web is basicly an entire Website within FrontPage, not just a single page.

I think the time you invest in following the lessons will save you lots of time later and lead you to creating better Websites.

Dave,
You are SO right. That's exactly what I did, and it was very helpful. It had been longer than I thought since I last went through the tutorial. I have the web/page issue straight now.
I had to get away from the computer for a while - I had fought the server error for so long I was fried. I had just returned to it & was about to leave a follow-up post here when I discovered the email alert stating you had posted.
You have been very helpful.

Thanks bunches!
