can you connect to the MSDE data base using SQL enterprise manager. I'd guess that it will connect if you use trusted connection and domain admin rights.

I think I've got the default database password for conf centre at work, if that doesn't work.

Once you've got access to the database, it shouldn't be too hard to blank the relevant field in the table. ( abit like the contact store reset procedure)

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Just out of interest, is there a default user?

Ie ADMIN/Administrator or the likes.

If so there is only so many passwords I would have used.

from memory its Admin

would need to check in the morning

Conference center lets you create you own name and password. there is no default. the only way i know of to recover it is to remove and reinstall. you wont lose anything. the database will still be there.

Thats fine. Its not got any thing in it, was just an old server we were building up. Done it before I dont my CCNA and now the user name/password have clearly been forgotton.

Will try a removal and re-install tomorrow.

You could try to install Cain&Abel on the server and see if that program could find it.

It works! Now if only I could remember what I did...

Tried removing and re-installing. It must be on DB some where as it has not prompted for me to add new username/password.

Unfortuantly have had great success in the past with cain, however if I put it on anything related to my company its curtains for me.

Try This...(I've done on our PC

You need MS Access and to be logged on to the machine with local Admin rights.

1) Create an ODBC connection (Control Panel -Admin tools data sources (ODBC) -> system tab)
2) Click Add
Enter
Name - Conf Centre
Descr - whatever
Server (dropdown box) select database <servername>\AvayaECSS
Click next
3) Ensure that you are using Windows Authentication to connect to DB
click next
4) Change default database to ECS master
click next
5) Click finish
6)click test datasource & wait for success message
(if you don't get it post back and I'll help some more)

7) click OK twice
8) Open Access (I used 2003) and create new database
9) Select tables from LHS on database window
right click in table lis and select LINK tables
10)Select ODBC from "link files of type"
11) Select Machine ODBC tab and select name created in step 2. click OK
12) Select dbo.useraccounts from Link Tables list click OK
13) Double click on dbo.Useraccounts table in database window
14) Look for entry in table where isAdministrator is -1
Delete entry in UserPassword (I guess this will blank password) Or if you know one of the user level passwords change the IsAdministrator to -1
15) Close database

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

Can I do this from another machine running access?

Ah this works so much in getting into the account.
Nice, However it does not like me blanking the password. It says it cannot be done.

I just connected to the database using Enterprise Manager (far easier if you install this!)

The password looks like it is encrypted - and the password can not be blank it seems!

However, there is a NMYSBH user account set (lovely CCC) - but it isn't admin. But if you can get the password for this though, you could probably change this to an admin account and go from there (change it to 1) - going to try 1 more thing though and report back

I am in the UserAccount Data base but am not getting any where on the save as it seems to be encrypted.

OK OK - here's what to do. It looks like the password is encrypted somehow against what the username is (if I put the same password down for 2 different user accounts, the encrypted password is different).

So - add a new account manually:-

UserID: tektips
UserPassword: a4e89c7b6eceb58c400543e72f6034b8
UserName: tektips
IsAdministrator: 1

Then login as normal with tektips, and the password is tektips1

Then go to user accounts and update the password for the account you have forgotten the password for (it doens't ask for the existing password!)

Off you go!

Let us know how you get on

I did try that and still seems as though it does not like the password.
I even logged onto the NMYSBH login and can see the tektips user in the user accounts here.

User ID Tektips
Username Tektips
Is Administrator True

You could remove and reinstall in half the time of all this.... Not even lose any data when you do it.

no - in the password in the actual database, enter this for the tektips password:-

a4e89c7b6eceb58c400543e72f6034b8

Then, when you actually login with IE:-

userid: tektips
password: tektips1

Far easier than uninstalling and more satisfying!

Good effort IPOUK *

I don't have SQL enterprise manager here unfortunately, but the Access route will also work for people who don't have it

The access route is a cool idea too - if you are on site and as you say most customers don't have SQL Enterprise Manager installed, the Access route is a good idea!
