Apparently, his wife has confiscated his laptop ... maybe just his lap!
Wish him a well or equally deep advice!

And if the preacher from the movie "The Princess Bride" had performed the ceremony, it might have ended up as "Ewik the Wed"

(Anyone recall the wedding scene in The Princess Bride: the preacher's remarks began, "Mawwiage. Mawwiage, that bwessed event, that dweam wiffin a dweam,...")

E!:

You've seen the movie!! I can't believe it's one of my favorites, but it is (this from a guy who's watched "Die Hard" bout 25 times!!).

On a bit different note, is Princess Bride a remake? I was channel surfing a while back when I saw an old movie with seemingly the same plot. Anyone know?

THanks,
Tim

P.S. - Congrats, again, Erik - and welcome back.

Dave,

I hate to butt in, but I'd love a copy! Princess Bride is one of my all-time favorite movies. I often find myself quoting it.

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Thanks for the offer, Dave, but this lazy guy will probably just keep rewatching the video... And I agree, it is one of the best written movies ever. Wob Weiner did a gweat job.

(good quote, John!)

Erik,

Wish him a well
First and foremost, congratulations. In my opinion, having a spouse can enrich your life tremendously. I wish you many years of hapiness together.

or equally deep advice!

I generally do not give advice unless asked for it. Are you comfortable getting marrital advice? I have a couple gems that I would be willing to share. Whadda say?

I'm no expert at being married. I've made some mistakes here and there. I can only hope that you will learn from my mistakes.

There are several obvious things, like... don't forget your Anniversary, her Birthday, Valentine's day, etc...

Then there's the less obvious. While driving around together, and you see a beautiful woman walking down the street, don't slow down, mumble to yourself incoherently, and then speed up after you pass her. Similarly, while watching the television, don't make comments like, "Mmmm.", or "She's pretty", or "I'd like a piece of that!". My wife doesn't appreciate that, and yours *probably* won't either.

Try not to complain too much. Compliments work much better. For example, "You look pretty today", and "My socks are nice and clean", "Dinner didn't taste like roadkill tonight, like it usually does". You get the idea.

I'm sure you'll get plenty of advice now, that you've agreed to it. I have one last piece of advice, though. No matter how much you want to, do NOT record the sound of her snoring. She won't like it. Whatever you do... don't post it on the internet. She'll probably scream. And for god's sake, don't send an email to her co-workers pointing them to the web site.

George,

I personally know someone who recorded the sound of his wife snoring. She did not appreciate it. You can be sure I will not make this mistake. [smile]

Actually, I've been taking in relationship advice for a long time now, and we're working hard on our relationship together. We've been watching videos and reading books and the like, and we're totally committed to making our relationship work, and making it last.

To offer a moderating opinion on "mawage", I'll relate our experience at a Kroger market in Atlanta many years ago. At the checkout counter, my six children (at the time ages 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 16) and I lined up behind an older gentleman (perhaps in his 70s-80s) who asked, "All them yer kids?"

I answered, "Yes, they're all mine."

He got a wistful, far-away look on his face and reminisced, "Yeah, I was married once...it took the joy outta livin', but the fear outta dyin'."

The old guy should have gone to George for advice.

May your lives together be blissful, Erik.

Compare to unmarried - married people leave longer (wishing they were dead much stronger) It is a joke!
