Hi all,

I listened to someone "wise" and ran

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda bs=512 > count=1024

with the aim of erasing my MBR. I have now erased my partition table :( I havn't rebooted... for now. Does anyone have any idea how I can get this back?

I think I can rebuild it if I can find out how many cylinders each partition takes up...

Cheers

Normally when you are doing stuff like this, you dd the existing data to a floppy (two, even, and don't stick them to the fridge with magnets), then if you accidentally hose the partition table, you can dd it back again. Are you sure the PT is gone? You can't boot, so how do you know?

If you used PartitionMagic to partition, you may be able to get it back using your rescue disks.

Thanks guys, I ended up reformatting.
