i erased the flash on my cisco catalyst 2960 switch and now i am ina amode that shows (switch:) only .
how do i change my baud rate in this mode ?
how do i upload a new ios?

if you erased the flash and rebooted and you see this
switch:
you will need to xmodem the IOS on it

I have never used a 2960, but would it not do tftpdnld?

Also, the IOS is usually compressed (tarball), so then what?

I also never worked on a 2960 but I know you tftpdnld on routers but cisco switches you need to do xmodem which take hours.....

copy xmodem: flash:IOS_filename

You XMODEM on older routers as well (2500's for example, don't do tftpdnld). That's why I was wondering.

Plus, you can set the BAUD for 115,200-=--not THAT bad when you do it that way.

I have never had to do it on a 2950/60, so I will try Tuesday. Been a few years since I actually learned how...gray hair now...lol

I don't mean to hyjack jcdctech999's thread, but I have a very similar problem. I have a WS-C2960-48TC-L and I loaded an incorrect image. Somehow in the process of trying to load the correct image I completely deleted the flash: file system. All of the technical documents I have found so far assume one can issue the dir flash: command or flash_init. Even an xmodem copy requires a source and destination and the transfer bombs as soon as it tries to write to flash:. The error message is "Sending files Transfer cancelled by remote system." When I press OK to close the transfer screen, the console says "CCCCBB0flash:: no such device" and then I'm back at the switch: prompt. It seems at this point, the Bootloader commands are my only option but I don't see how to create a file system through bootloader commands. Any ideas?

Have you tried the three commands after holding in the mode button, i.e. flash_init, load_helper and dir flash: (WITH the colon!)?

Yes I did. When I enter the flash_init command I get the following response: "Initializing Flash... ...No flash Filesystems found.
